Early life and teenage years
Sep. 19th, 2018 10:07 amEarly life (continued) Kazuki wandered from village to village and learned fast the cruelty of strangers, she was treated as any street urchin would be but she did find some kindness here and there from children her own age, younger or a little older than her. Those who like her lived on the street taught her how to survive and feed herself although she did not like the means of thievery it was unfortunately a necessity for many and now it was such for her. Kazuki could see things that many could not, she saw the faces of creatures that were not human wearing a human visage like a suit of armor and she knew no one would believe her, yet she had to know if they were evil or not.
Most of the time they were and other times they were simply looking for a good life and for the latter she kept their secret in exchange for a few days supplies and a bed for the night, for the former she always made sure they got their just desserts even if it meant dirtying her own hands. Oh yes Kazuki has made the conscious choice to end a life many times but only those who seek to harm the common folk or create chaos and pain simply for the hell of it were ended.
For the next two years she did this and earned herself an unsavory reputation because of it resulting in everyone she met who realized who she was treating her worse than the dirt they walked on, she almost died from starvation because of this, if it were not for a single elderly man she would have perished. He took a good long look at her as she weakly gripped her dagger ready to attack him if he tried anything funny "If I wanted to kill you girl you would not have seen nor heard me. I know who you are but I mean you no harm, you will die soon if you do not let me help you" she knew he was right and thinking even if he did kill her at least her pain would end. She dropped her dagger and let him pick her up.
He took her to his home and nursed her back to health, this man was formerly a samurai that served the Date and was known across Japan as The Wolf for his strength and ferocity on the battlefield. He had only been out of service for seven years and that was because of an injury that forced him to put up his blades, his name was Kagechi Mamoru and he was nearing eighty. Yes that's right he had served the Date until he was forced out by injury, he was a legend among them for this and was very much loved all across Ohsu. Kazuki knew this and decided early one morning to leave without a word, she did but something she saw just an hour later changed her mind and she decided to stay.
Teenage years
Mamoru taught Kazuki how to fight when his back would allow him to and he never went easy on her, it was utter hell but she took everything he could throw at her which intrigued him and over the last few years they had become like father and daughter. But just as she was starting to truly let herself be happy again fate decided to hit her again with the pain of loss. Mecernaries came for her in the night but Mamoru had known they were coming and had given Kazuki his most treasured blade and ordered her to run and not look back, both loving and respecting him as her master she did as she was told and ran out the back as he ran out to meet the men with his second blade and a war cry that still held all of its fear-inducing glory.
Kazuki ran until she couldn't hear the fighting anymore, there in the silence of the forest she struggled with doing what she was ordered to and what her honor was commanding her to do, ultimately she turned on her heels and ran back to aid Mamoru and was ready to face his anger afterward but right as she got there a mercenary held his blade above Mamorus neck who was being restrained by four men, they locked eyes and everything slowed to a crawl as she drew her blade and everything went black.
When she came to again Mamoru was dead and she was surrounded by severed limbs and corpses that weren't there when she had blacked out, looking down at herself she saw she was drenched in blood that was not her own, putting things together slowly she realized what had happened and felt massive guilt and shame. She dragged her masters corpse to the grave of his late wife and buried him next to her, using his old armor as a marker and placed his broken sword on the top soil before cleaning herself up, changing her clothes and taking a few days worth of supplies then she ran once more into the fading night,
She was fourteen then and for the next four years she kept her blade wrapped up in order to hide from the Date as they had taken the death of Mamoru very hard and she could not risk them recognizing the blade she carried, she was not ready to face her shame and involvement in the whole affair. However, during those four years she decided that she would never be ready for it and so if she ever came face to face with the young dragon or his right eye then she would tell them everything and face whatever crappy hand fate decided to deal out...
